Among the themes we have explored from the first day of class are panpsychism (the doctrine that the basic substratum of all existence possesses some kind of awareness), the relationship of consciousness and matter, and the possibility of Artificial Intelligence.  Beginning next week, we will discuss the nature of science, and the relevance of Darwin and natural selection for our understanding of all living things, including ourselves.    Your assignment is to watch a debate between two intellectual enemies on all of these themes:  The popular spiritual writer, Deepak Chopra; and the equally popular evolutionary biologist and atheist, Richard Dawkins.  The debate takes place in Puebla, Mexico.  Here is the main topic the two are debating (the major topic which entails and includes all of the topics mentioned above):Certainly, living things (worms, humans, birds) demonstrate purpose.  Living things seek food, avoid predators…etc.  But does the universe itself have a purpose?  You are NOT to start at the very beginning.  Rather, begin this youtube video around 14:40, and watch it to the end.  It will take you about an hour.  It is an entertaining video, but either watch it in segments, or better:  Watch it during the time we would ordinarily be having class.   The video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f4c_CrQzUGwWhen you are finished, answer the following questions with a few or more paragraphs (total).  I will be looking at how much thought you put into your answers.  Just do this to the best of your ability.1)      Concerning Chopra and Dawkins:  What is their basic position on the main topic of the debate (does the universe have a purpose)?  List at least one argument they give for their position. 2)      Whose worldview do you agree with overall?  Explain your answer in full detail.   3)      Why does Dawkins seem to dislike Chopra so much?
