Hey SolutionsPro, Here is Week 4 Philosophy assignments:Week 4 DBassignment:Assignment DetailsThe modernist philosopher John Locke argued that human behavior is determined almost entirely by nurture or environment. He argued that humans are born a tabula rasa (Latin for blank slate), and that all knowledge is acquired through experience. In short, an individual’s environments (the home he or she grows up in, the education that he or she receives, etc.) determine who that individual becomes. On the other end of the spectrum is genetic determinism, which is the belief that personality and behavioral traits are formed chiefly by an individual’s DNA, and that environment has very little influence. Studies involving identical twins seem to support the claim that genetics play a large role in behavior because identical twins are usually found to be more similar than fraternal twins or regular siblings.Discuss the following questions:Part 1Most scientists agree that human personality and behavioral traits are shaped by both genetics and environment; but, if you had to choose between genetics and environment, which one do you think plays the largest role?Part 2What social and cultural issues could develop if scientists manipulate genetics? How would the social environment, work environment, and culture change if environments are manipulated? Give examples.Discuss with 2 or more classmates their responses and opinions.Week 4 DB response to classmates: Michael Williams                          Re:Unit4 – Discussion Board      I will say environment more so then genetics, why because genetics determent how a person expect to live through his or her relative DNA genetics. Through these DNA genetics, it is tested through blood which tells the family lifestyle history. Therefore, it will become heredity and any condition such as heart disease, high cholesterol, mind disease (bipolar) sick-cell and etc. will tell through DNA genetics. As humans, I minds gather or absorb information what surround us and we learn and develop things from the environment we live in or come from. For Instance, If a child grow up in an environment where there is crime and was taught crime throughout his childhood, he is more likely to have a behavior pattern to do crime and in the other hand a child who is in an environment that has an educational background then that child is more likely to succeed in life. You are what you become according to your environment standing. ( Dominiczak, A. 2013) (Hudson, G. 2014)                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   The issue I would see that could have developed if scientist wishes to manipulate genetics in social and culture situation would be genetics determinism. Because of genetics determinism, our culture’s behavioral traits and human personality is influenced by our culture and DNA/genetics. If scientist wishes to manipulate our genetics or try to change our DNA this will affect many culture and because of this it may cure one problem and cause another problem. Which may cause a different type of behavioral problem and for social it may change the way we interact with one another, by acting and communicating differently that may have an impact on society.       Sociologists and psychologists often use the terms nature and nurture because nature is a part of us and who we are as humans and nurturing is the prime influencing factor, but sense we go through the stages of childhood to our adolescence into our adults years learn to make the right choices.  (John Locke 1632-1704).                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          The social environment, work environment, and culture change if environments are manipulated? As for a culture background, it will help build relationship between individuals by influences many others outside their cultures. There will be more jobs for more people to help build a stronger economy. Big and small businesses will build successfully and help keep the unemployment rating at its low. Social get people to engaged more and feel they have that choice of freedom and by interacting with each other, we tend to make world strong and safer place. ( Soccio, D. J. 1995).                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               Dominiczak, A.(2013) BMC Medical Genetics. The human experience from thousands of years of evoultion is embedded into our genes. All that we have learned, made, and who we are is all determined with genes. In crimnial forensics they have developed a process where they can decode what a person looks like just from a sample of DNA and that’s without even seeing the individual or knowing said person. I mean they can pick out hair color, face shape, eye shape, body shape, with in reason, and gender just from a DNA sample the size of a pinhead. That seems to concrete the fact that it’s all about genetics. I think it’s a great leap to beable to tamper with genentics in a way that would really make any kind of difference. We are able to lots of stuff with genetics but it seems that we are still trying to figure out what all is in them and in order to change anything or make something new within genetics, we need to know exactly what we are tampering with. Can’t just shot from the hip and go all wild with it. If we did start just flowing from the hip we would have all sorts of crazy experiments like you see in horror movies. A human with the cock roaches ability to survive, a bear with human intelligence, or some messed up stuff like that. The perfect example of human enviroment changeing would have best to deal with the indians. They went from living with nature to living in cities and towns with people who didn’t share anything with them. They didn’t do to well at first but once they addapted and got used to the change everything went fine, other then we robbed them of land and all that. My point is if the enviroment changes humans will always adapt and change to make it work for them. Another example would be like a small town country guy headed into the city where there is many different types of people, food, cultures, and concrete. That’s a huge change for someone who is used to seeing and talking to the same people in his/her town day in and day out. Seeing wide open fields all day to seeing buildings and concrete all day. It’s a huge adjustment but eventually he or she will fall into place and make the new enviroment their own. Jacqueline Stephens                          Re:Unit4 – Discussion BoardPart 1: I believe that both genetics and environment affect personality and behavioral traits, but each in different ways.  Genetics can affect personality due to each persons DNA.  You see many children that are very much like their parents : shy, outspoken, or have genetic defects that can create health and mental illnesses.  Environment affects behavior more so then Genetics.  The children’s environments is their up bringing.  It determines how they react to social situations, how involved in their communities they are, and even how they view the world.  An example would be children growing up in poverty.  In a study done by the Illinois State Board of Education in 2001,  poverty is the greatest predictor of social and academic failure in the U.S. schools.  This could be due to the environments the children live in, limited positive or parental influences, or an emphasis on other activities instead of education: gangs, drugs, ect. (Ziropli, 2014). Social and cultural issues that may develop due to genetic mutation would be that the development of research would be more profit based than doing whats good for the society.  A positive aspect would be that with gene therapy, expectant parents could some day alter the genes of their unborn children if a mutation was detected.  If a mutation was detected, gene therapy could help eliminate or alter that gene, giving the child a better chance at having a healthier life (Ethics of manipulating genes,2001).Social, work, and cultural environments would change if the environment was altered either positively or negatively.  If dangers were eliminated and positive role models were present, the environment would change drastically for the better.  An example would be a student in enrolled in the school system I work in.  He lives in a negative environment, without positive role models, and no push to succeed.  He rarely comes to school and does poorly on his school work.  If his environment was to change, he had positive role models, and a push to do better in school,  he would thrive.  Environments could change to the negative through lack of support, lack of positive role models, and the lack to do better.  People would slack off in the workplace and in home life, and culturally this world could become a dangerous place.    References: Ethics of manipulating genes (2001).
